About Dan

Dr. Dan Armistead

Leaving a career in business, Dan answered the call of Jesus to “Follow me!” What began as an exciting journey, filled with joy and anticipation, became a discouraging and intolerable prison of religious rules, worldly politics, and forced institutional conformity.

In 2008, Dan, together with Sherri, his soulmate and wife of forty years, broke free of these chains. Together, they served what is now Freedom Village Church in Seoul, Korea. A community of faith welcoming people from diverse faith traditions and countries around the globe, this “church on the edge of the world,” as Dan described it, was and is, a taste of heaven.

In December of 2019, Dan returned to the United States. Since that time, he has published several books, including Prophets or Patriots: How Evangelicals are Giving to Caesar what Belongs to GodMasterpiece in the Making: Life Lessons for Spiritual GrowthPhilemon: Reflections on Spiritual Maturity, and Where is the God of Elijah: Overcoming Spiritual Drought.

Dan and Sherri now serve Embrace Church in North Carolina’s international city, High Point. A multicultural fellowship affirming the gifts and calling of women in ministry, Embrace is seeking to be a church on the edge – following Jesus outside the camp of Christian nationalism, religious rules, and forced doctrinal conformity.
